HOW DID THE CONSTELLATIONS COME ABOUT ?

Mankind walks underneath the most glorious record of deliverance each night, and yet most are totally unaware of this magnificent story written in the stars above.  The study of the stars, and more specifically the study of the constellations and what they are saying to us, is not typically taught from the church pulpit today. Some even consider the discussion of such a subject tantamount to witchcraft.  The fact the Lord has warned us in the Old testament not to worship the stars, and by so doing break the first commandment,

has kept many from looking to the story that God has written in the heavens.

"

Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsel.  Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, come up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it."

Isaiah 47:18

The Word of God does, in fact, warn us about soothsayers, fortunetellers and other black arts.  Lucifer and his army of followers have always attempted to lure mankind into worship of devils.  If the destroyer of men's souls can deceive a person into looking to anything other than the true God, he has achieved his goal.

Satan will take what God created for beauty and good, and twist, pervert, confuse and cover it, to try to turn man's heart to worship the creation, rather than the creator,

Who deserves glory and honor forever!

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen."

Romans 1: 21, 22.

Most of today's common knowledge of the constellations, even among renowned astronomers and so called astrologers, is totally devoid of the awesome spectacle of love and redemption which God has recorded in the heavens though the ancient zodiac.  In fact, the word zodiac comes from the word Zoa, which means "the path" or "the way".  How wondrous is His love that moved Him to record His word in the heavens, so they all could see.

"

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.  There is no speech nor language where their voices is not heard.  Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.  In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.  His going forth is from the end of heaven, and His circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof".

Psalm 19:1-6

"And God said, let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and days, and years".

Genesis 1:14,15

If God made the stars, and they were to be for " signs", it is logical to ask, "What are the signs he is talking about"?  The wise men from the east who visited the young child Jesus must have been assured of the signs that they had read in the heaven.  They were convinced enough of the star they observed in the east to travel a great distance by camel.  These wise men were priests from the country where Daniel and the children of Israel had been led captive.  Their culture was schooled in the study of the stars from before Abraham's time.  Daniel himself could have identified to these priests the promise of the coming Messiah to be born of the tribe of Israel, and out of the house of David.  After all, he was the chief of all the wise men!

In order to understand the origin and the true meaning of the zodiac, you must believe that approximately four thousand five hundred years ago, covered by a flood.  The record of Noah was not "just a story" made up by the

bible's authors, but an actual event that changed the face of the earth and the history of man.  The fact that modern man has been talked into believing the "theory' of evolution is evidenced by the ridicule one often gets when making known he actually believes the story of the flood.

Many people do not believe the creation story of Adam and Eve and the subsequent record of the fall of man.  Without this foundation, it is difficult for a person to understand the story written in the stars.  The whole subject of the constellations, from Virgo though Leo, is the fulfillment of the promise of God written in Genesis:

"

And I will put enmity between thy seed and the seed of the woman.  You shall bruise his heel, but he will crush your head."

Genesis 3:15

God has promised a redeemer for fallen man.  He first wrote His  promise in pictures in the heavens.  These pictures told the story in great detail.  The promised redeemer, the Messiah, the desire of all nations the coming branch, would be born of a Virgin.  Satan would bruise his heel, but the redeemer would crush Satan's head.  This is the story the constellations give us!  The first four of the twelve constellations, and each of their three decans, or sub constellations, deal with people as a result of His first coming.  The second group of four outline the salvation brought to God's power and judgment upon the face of the earth.  Death, the last enemy, is destroyed!  What a glorious message written above us to read each night.

If it is true that the story written in the heavens is the story of salvation. Is it any wonder why the prince of the power of the air, , the god of this world, Satan, would work to pervert this original story, this promise of redemption?   The birth, life, death and resurrection of the promised redeemer, and his triumphant and total victory over sin and death is a message the adversary would want to cover up.

The  origin of the figures written in the stars dated from the days before Noah, when the original patriarchs, the children of Adam through Seth lived.  Look at Jude's bold proclamation:

"And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.'

Jude 14, 15

Who was this man Enoch?  He is the earliest person in the Bible specifically identified as a prophet, (Jude says he prophesied) and a man born in the seventh generation from Adam, through Seth.  He was the father of Methuselah and Noah's great grandfather.  Since men lived to such a great age then, it is also known that Enoch lived while Adam was still alive.  We also know the Bible says he was "translated," in Hebrews 11:5.

"And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:  And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years;  And Enoch walked with God; and he was not; for God took him."

Genesis 5:21 -24

There is an ancient book called "The book of Enoch" which Jude quotes from, but time here does not allow a further study of that writing.  You the reader may wish to order it if he subject is of interest to you.  Whatever else we may learn about Enoch from reading The Book of Enoch, one thing is certain: this man walked with God.

We know from Genesis that Adam named all of the animals.  Could it be possible that on those many starlit nights, as he gazed up at the stars with Eve, that Adam also named the stars/Certainly God gave these names by revelation to someone, because the ancient meaning of the names of the stars in each constellation also tells God's meaning of the constellation.  Perhaps Adam passed the names on to Seth, and Seth to Enos, and Enos to Cainan, and Cainan to Mahalaleel, and Mahalaleel to Jared, and Jared to Enoch, and Enoch to Methuselah, and  Methuselah and Methuselah to Lamech, and Lamech to Noah, and Noah on to the post-Flood world.  This knowledge was somehow passed on with great accuracy because all the most ancient civilizations have the same twelve figures represented in their zodiacs!

The book of Job, which most Bible scholars believe to be the oldest book in the Bible, was probably written approximately 2150 B,C., 1,500 years before Thales, the first of the philosophers, was born.  there are many references in the book of Job to the constellations.  In Chapter 38, God breaks into the conversation and speaks to Job and his false comforters, saying:

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?  Canst thou bring Mazzaroth in his season?  Or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?"

Job 38: 31, 32.

This is clear reference to the constellations of Orion and Pleiades, and the star Arcturus Mazzaroth is a Hebrew word which means "the constellations of the zodiac."  Also in the book of Job there is reference to Cetus, the Sea Monster, and to Draco, the Great Dragon.  Here in the oldest book of the Bible, written centuries before the Greek and Roman pagan cultures, we find that the constellations of the zodiac were already clearly known and understand.

"

"By His Spirit he hath garnished the heavens, His hand hath formed the crooked serpent."

Job 26: 13.

The purpose of this study is to clearly set forth the basic information you will need to know in order to understand the magnificent beauty of God's handiwork in the heavens.  The foundation for this work was laid in the 1800's through the work of E.W. Bullinger, and Joseph Seiss, both of whom wrote wonderful and thorough works on the subject.  In more recent times, Dr. James Kennedy's book entitled, 'The Real Meaning of the Zodiac,' has served to enlighten many in modern America.  Our work contains numerous references to the above books, and  I recommend that any serious student of ;this subject obtain one or more of these books for a more thorough understanding of the subject.

"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts;

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation, for the prophecy came not in olden time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake, moved by the holy spirit."

11 Peter 1: 20, 21.
